Going to University of Oregon has its advantages, aside from getting an education if you are an athlete you are draped in Nike apparel; most of which is a special make up for Oregon athletes specifically. That’s just a way of life in Eugene, thats what happens when the founder of Nike (Phil Knight) is an Alum. Nike has taken it a step further, doing a raffle for 10 pairs of the special make up of the AJ III (Pit Crew) at Oregon’s Midnight Madness this past October. The Pit Crew is the student section at Oregon’s home basketball games.
A lot of things have changed for Keydren Clark since his High school days at legendary Rice High School and his college days at Saint Peter’s college. The one constant that remains the same is Mr. Clark gets buckets! The quiet, low key, 5’9” kid from Hungry Ham Harlem, took the college basketball ranks by storm as a two time division one scoring champ and ranks sixth all time in division one scoring history. KeeKee went undrafted after several NBA workouts and took his services to Europe, besides the change of scenery nothings really changed. KeeKee continues to fill it up in the points column any way you like it. A few scoring titles in Europe and in the off season he brings his talents back to the NYC summer circuit, where he continues to rack up the hardware with and against some of the most well known pros in the NBA. Don’t believe me, just do some research on this past summer’s Dyckman summer tournament. Just before the Christmas holiday we caught up with Keydren Clark and discussed topics from kick, style, music and of course a lil’ hoops talk.
MR:So where are u playing these days and how long have you been with your current club?
KC:I am currently playing in Venice, Italy in my second year with Umana Venezia Reyer.
MR:How have you guys done so far this year?
KC:We are currently in a 4 way tie for 5th place.
MR:Any familiar names on your team this year from the states?
KC:I have Alvin Young that played at Niagara University (NY Guy), who lead the nation in scoring. I have Tamar Slay Marshall University, who played three years in the NBA with the Nets and Bobcats and I also have Timothy Bowers who played at Mississippi State.
MR:What clubs have you played for in the last 5 yrs?
KC:I have been with Umana Venezia Reyer (Italy) for two years, Aris Thessolonki for two years (Greece), Scavolini Pesaro for one year (Italy) and Egaleo for one year (Greece).
MR:What country have you enjoyed living in most from a social standpoint, off the court?
KC:I like both of the countries i have played in. Greece is more americanized than Italy, so if i had to pick i would probably choose Greece. It never really gets cold, they have all the American food chains such as Applebee’s, Friday’s, KFC, Pizza Hut, McDonald’s, StarBucks. Greece also have the best movie theatre i have ever been to, it has assigned seats and the seats are lazy-boys!!
MR:You’re an uptown Harlem guy, the summer circuit is huge up there. I hear u had a big summer with Team Nike. Could you elaborate on what leagues you were in and how u did?
KC:Yeah, the Team Nike thing was a Great Experience!!! I was able to be apart of something special. For the first time ever in streetball Nike picked 10 of the Best Guys in NY Streetball to represent their brand. They had one goal in mind for us… WIN the Dyckman Tournament and the Nike Tournament of Champions and we did both. I also participated in the Hoops in the Sun League at Orchard Beach where my team won the championship the previous year and we won it for the second time in a row, of course I was the Back 2 Back Championship MVP. I think i had 34 or something like that. The other tournament I played in was EBC (Rucker Park) where I lost in the championship in overtime to X-Men. I played one game in Nike Pro City against Kevin Durant in which we lost in Overtime as well. I played Good had like 30 in that game. John Lucas, my teammate had 60 and KD had 42 Classic Game!
MR:You’re a pretty big name in your own right, who did you enjoy going up against this summer?
KC:Yea I guess my Resume kinda speaks for itself lol. There’s so many talented people in streetball that i cant name’m all. A few that standout is Andre Barrett, Dwight Hardy, Yatta Gaines, Aaron Williams, Gary Ervin, Greg Plummer; just to name a few.
MR:Did the NBA lockout effect you in any way?
KC:Nah it didn’t effect me at ALL. I’m a guy that’s all about Security so i make sure when i find a good situation in Europe that i lock in 2year deals.. Mainly because i don’t like to be stressed during the summer and i know that when summer is over I’m going back to a familiar place.
MR:We go back a ways and i know you have a soft spot for kicks! What have you been rocking on the court this season?
KC:Man since I’m apart of Team Nike now, I wear pretty much whatever they send me. I love the Kobe’s, Hyperfuse Mid, low, Hyperdunks, KDs, Amare’s. I will wear whatever is free I’m not picky, they just have to be comfortable and light.
MR:What’s in your kicks rotation off the court?
KC:I have so many i cant even think to name them all. My walk-in closet has damn near every hot shoe out to date, Foamposites, AF1s, Air Max’s, Jordans, u name it I’m sure i pretty much have it.
MR:Top 5 Jordan’s in order?
KC:That’s a tough question right there!! 11s, 3s, 6s, 9s, 13s
MR:Being from Harlem, fashion is really big! Now living in Europe 70 percent of the time, has your fashion sense changed at all? What brands are you rocking this fall?
KC:My fashion has changed a lil bit!! I’m no longer into the baggy clothes. Now I’m into fitted not skinny jeans but my actual size. I’m into Rock & Republic, True Religion, Armani, Gucci, LV, Zara, H&M, and Ralph Lauren.
MR:Whats on rotation in the iPod the last 2 weeks?
KC:I listen to everything man, it really depends on how I’m feeling that day. Jay-Z, Kanye, Fab, Meek Mills, Rick Ross, Fred Da Godson, Vado, Weezy, T.I, Michael Jackson, Beyonce, Jeezy, C4 (Chuck). You name it, its on my iPod.
MR:Favorite Jay Z album?
KC:Vol. 2 Hard Knock Life
MR:One word response to the next three statements….
MR:Euro league fans
Big thanks to KeeKee for taking the time for the Q & A with Modern Renaissance, we wish you the best of luck and health the rest of the season…Keep Killin’m fam!

Pharrell Williams Named One of Two Oscar Music Supervisors
Super Producer Pharrell Williams is the definition of creative versatility. With that said, it should come as no surprise that the NERD member was chosen as one of two composers along with Hans Zimmer as the Oscar Music Supervisors. Along with traditional scores for the 84th annual Academy Awards, viewers may get a taste of hip hop and indie rock sounds compliments of heavy base lines and major chords by Mr. Williams.
Houston based producer QuickSaand releases another dope instumental titled "The Cool Quest". For those without a jazz trained ear this is a Miles Davis sample from the classic album “Birth Of The Cool” …enjoy and be on the lookout for QuickSaand’s upcoming 2012 project.
